"This year the stronger productions in the open-to-all event were on a par with the more prestigious, curated Edinburgh International Festival. There was plenty of laughter at Hello Kitty Must Die, the musical inspired by Angela Chois cult novel of the same title."
"A fierce musical in which five young women rebel in fury against the pervasive sterotype of Asian women. The Central idea is a strong one and director Kurt Johns' brilliant cast bring a huge committment to the show."
"Musical Vengeance at its best! Moving between characters is seemless, you'd be forgiven for not realising what a small cast this actually is. The focus remains on the story and the talent telling it!" ★★★★
"Simply staged, this new satire joins a roster of fantastically funny modern musicals such as Six I can very easily imagine Hello Kitty Must Die following in Six's Stiletto heeled footsteps from fringe phenomenon to award winning West End success."
"A darkly humorous story and great songs make for a twisted delight...the whole enterprise has the delightfully twisted feel of Heathers! ★★★★ "
"The set is minimal making the ensemble responsible for creating the environment for each scene. This is done expertly well as the cast earns many laughs from the audience. This is the musical we needed. It is incredibly entertaining and immensely enjoyable to watch. It is sure to be a standout at this years' Fringe". ★★★★★
"An oddball treat of powerhouse performance from a talented ensemble of Asian-American women. THe show goes from bitchy rom-com to serial killer chic in a flash and the audience is there for it. This show feels very Off-Broadway in that it's polished, fierce, and ready to blow the tired Asian female stereotypes out of the water. ★★★★ "
"Hello Kitty Must Die packs an absurd amount of action into one hour. It is imaginatively adapted for the stage by Gail Rastorfer and Kurt Johns. The performances of the cast alone make this show worth seeing, and the direction does well to communicate shifts in the characters. If you're looking for something vibrant and twisted, catch the show...! ★★★★ "
"THe wickedly dark comic musical Hello Kitty Must Die is set to be the smash hit of the 2023 Edinburgh Fringe. I grinned all the way through and applauded in disbelief at how deftly the story had been told. It's this kind of tight and clever writing that will keep audiences engrossed. A complete drama, a riveting narrative, a musical full of humour and sass; there's nothing quite like it and I adored it. ★★★★★ "
"This is absolutely the musical of the Fringe for me. So original, so fun, so exciting. I wish I could go and see it again. This would kill Off-Broadway. The cast was terrific multi-roling as all these different characters, its edgy, its subversive, its fun. ★★★★ "
This is a musical with a bold narrative that keeps on giving and the audience around me were really enjoying it. The songs were sung exceptionally well and it felt like I was in the West End at times, it was that level of professional. The set is very simple however it is used and manoeuvred so swiftly that it is used incredibly well...it is done correctly, the characters are all distinctive and it is very hard to do and have seen other shows at the fringe where they have failed to do this. I highly recommend this show, initially it will shock you but as the story goes on it will be a story that you will engage in and want to find out the ending. ★★★★
